✨ Knowing the Line: Wanting vs Needing

There’s a line finer than silk, subtler than breath—
Between what I need and what I merely want.
One keeps me alive.
The other keeps me chasing.

To want is not sin.
Need is not weakness.
But to confuse them—ah, that’s where suffering sneaks in.

I eat because I need food.
But I crave salted peanuts—until a tooth breaks,
And then I realize:
It was just a want,
And now I suffer for it.

The journey—whether in Zen or in Islam—is to know this distinction not intellectually,
but viscerally.
Through pain. Through awareness.
Through surrender.

May I want less, need little,
and be content with enough.
