Night Prayers and the Whisper of al-Fatiha — by Shamsul Bahari

Night Prayers and the Whisper of al-Fatiha

— by Shamsul Bahari

The night stretches deep, and my body aches in silence.
The children are asleep, curled in their dreams, unbothered by the quiet ache that follows me.
And then — just as I am typing,
the voice begins.

“Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim...”
The opening verse of Surah al-Fatiha rises from the TV,
soft, rhythmic, like a lullaby from heaven.

It is no coincidence.
It is a moment written just for me.

They repeat it seven times.
Seven waves of mercy.
Seven veils lifted from the heart.
Seven openings in the wall of pain I carry tonight.

I sit still,
let the words fall over me like rain on dry soil,
let the healing begin where no medicine reaches —
deep in the soul,
in the quiet house,
while the stars bear witness.

“You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”

Yes, Ya Rabb... I ask only from You.

“Guide us to the straight path…”

Even in this illness of the night,
guide me.

My children sleep, unaware of the prayer being woven around them.
But I know,
and the Lord knows.
And that is enough.

Wallahu A‘lam.
