A Day in the Life of the Cheeseburger Buddha 10 July 2025

Breathing and breathing out, Life, free as a bird!

A Day in the Life of the Cheeseburger Buddha

10 July 2025

The morning began with a dream that faded too fast — but left behind a warm ember:
Someone, somewhere, said, “Thanks to him, we got through this.”
And I woke not just from sleep, but from duty fulfilled in some other realm.
The Universe said it was okay to help this round.

I told my daughter I wouldn't be driving today.
There was no tantrum, no guilt — just a quiet ripple through time,
a nudge toward self-responsibility.
Dad has driven far enough. It’s time for the young to take the wheel.

Laundry was started. Dishes done.
A two-day-old chicken curry was revived — thicker, richer, and bold with memory.
Curry ages like wisdom: sharper, deeper, unforgiving in the best way.

I sat where all humans sit eventually — the humble toilet —

and in that moment, I truly let go.
The meaning of release took on a cosmic dimension.
No temple walls needed.
Just tiled ones.

Hans Zimmer played in the background — Gladiator, then The Godfather, and finally The Last Samurai.
Music that doesn’t just fill a room, but expands the soul.
Each note reminded me that even a dying civilization leaves behind its songs —
melancholy, magnificent, and beautifully broken.

My daughter, tuned in to my small aches, brought me Nivea cream and Vaseline.
And just like that, the itching stopped.
A kindness wrapped in silence.
Cared for? Yes.
But more deeply valued.

By noon, the sun broke through.
The Second Penang Bridge stretched out like a brushstroke across the sea,
disappearing behind Pulau Jerejak — a place I once worked, once belonged.
And now I am here, again,
but not chasing anything.
Not proving anything.

Art is Resistance, but I let it Flow Freely.

Just breathing.
Listening.
Hearing the music between the notes.
The silence that drowns all sound, yet gives rise to every note.

I am home. Within and without.
And this —
This is the way of the Cheeseburger Buddha.
No robe. No altar. Just a full heart, warm curry, and a spirit at ease in the ordinary.
