Shake it Loose and let it Fall...Hand colored Black and White photo
🌀 A Dialogue Between the Ego and the Soul
(Written after the second Azan, in the stillness of the mosque)
EGO:
Why do you always try to silence me?
Without me, who are you?
I gave you a name, a story, a shape.
I built your world.
Am I not the one who kept you safe?
SOUL:
You kept me busy, not safe.
You built walls and called them homes.
Stories and masks, and called them me.
But I was never yours to contain.
EGO:
Then what are you without me?
Empty? Wordless? Forgotten?
SOUL:
I am the silence before names.
The breath beneath the breath.
I have no fear of being forgotten—
for I was never born to be remembered.
EGO:
But they won’t hear you without me.
They won’t see you.
You need my cleverness, my sharp edges.
SOUL:
I am not here to be seen.
I am here to see.
And your edges only cut when clung to.
Polished, they can reflect the light—but they are not the light itself.
EGO:
So you don’t need me?
SOUL:
I do…
for a time.
Like a boat to cross the sea.
But you must not pretend you are the sea.
EGO:
Then what becomes of me?
SOUL:
You soften.
You bow.
You become humble enough to serve,
not rule.
