"Life is Suffering, But None Who Suffers"- The Buddha. (revised)

19/8/2017 - Time and again, I’ve quoted the Buddha as saying, “Life is suffering, but suffering is none who suffers. Just as Nirvana is—none who attains it.” What did he mean by this? I think—I believe—I am beginning to understand it, though not fully. The best I can do is not to identify with suffering as “I am suffering.” This I, this ego, this entity I imagine myself to be, is ultimately a phantom.

Suffering exists, yes. But only so long as I believe myself to be this constructed self. When I stop identifying with thought and ego, suffering becomes just a passing phenomenon of existence, not mine, not me. If that’s difficult to grasp, it’s okay. I’m still figuring it out myself. But I feel I’m getting closer—not just to intellectual understanding, but to truly living from it.

I now see how my ignorance has drained me over the years, through anger, guilt, blame, and judgment, especially toward myself. I have been my harshest judge, my own executioner. But not anymore. I refuse to be a victim of my own delusions. Even if I am covered in the filth of old habits and shadows, I will rise—not in shame, but in strength.

I will compost this suffering into nourishment for my awakening. I will grow from it. I am the master of my destiny, my thoughts, my words, and my actions. I am not bound to my past. I am not condemned to repeat it. I am a soul in motion toward awakening. So help me God. Insha’Allah.

These words may sound empty to some, but to me, they are sacred vows. They are my inner contract with this life. With each repetition, I reinforce my commitment to awaken—to embody the Buddha Mind, the clear and compassionate spirit that sees through illusion and refuses to be seduced by the world's madness.

Yes, we are often asleep in an insane world, unaware that we are sleepwalking. Wake up, Bahari! Stay awake! Don’t be fooled by the dream of ego, pride, passion, and ignorance. Don’t live like cattle, headed mindlessly for slaughter.

This human birth is too precious to waste. The soul is too sacred to ignore. As the Buddha said, “In this human form is enlightenment most attainable. Don’t waste time.”
