Advice to Myself – 23/5/2019
Seek silence—for you have nothing more to prove, aside from making noises like an empty drum.
Seek beauty, because there is already so much ugliness and discord in the world.
Become a true seeker of spiritual enlightenment, for in the end, nothing else worth finding truly matters.
The journey may be long and winding, full of holes and pitfalls, but rise again, rebound, and keep walking toward that which you seek. The goal is yours and yours alone. To attain liberation is to have lived life to the fullest.
Good and bad, right and wrong—these are but sicknesses of the mind. Heal your own soul through right and complete understanding of who you truly are. Stop looking backwards too often. Trudge forward, even when everything seems too bleak to comprehend.
Never say die before your time is up. Throw in the towel only after it has been drenched with your blood, sweat, and love. Love with all your heart, and you too will find love in the hearts of others. Wake up. Stay awake. Do not let them fool you.
In more than one way, the world is spinning out of control.
Stay your course, however small or insignificant it may seem—
It is your path, your journey, your destination.
If you must have faith, have faith in who you truly are—and become that which is your destiny. God will understand.
If you must be proud or defiant, let it be because you have earned your birthright to stand tall. You have earned your Rite of Passage.
Be humble. Walk with humility. Keep your eyes lowered to the ground before you, lest you step on a sentient being crawling across your path. The eyes that love to wander are easily caught by wonder, and carry more baggage for the mind to process.
Listen not to the endless discourse of others, unless it truly merits your attention.
Politely retreat into your inner sanctum.
Let the outer noise die on its own, without your attachment to it.
It is just background music.
Float like a cork down the river, bouncing off rocks and debris—never lodged, never stuck—as you head toward the open sea.
You are just another piece of flotsam in the vast ocean of consciousness.
Be kind to yourself before expecting others to be kind to you.
This is the law of the seeker of silence.
All your mistakes and errors—grist for the mill of your own salvation.
Look to no one and nothing for your redemption.
You are the master of your ship, your destiny.
If there’s anything worth believing, believe in this.
Let your heart speak freely—it is the voice of the soul when pure and open.
Remain in silence when the heart has nothing to say.
The Lord has given man two ears to listen more and speak less.
It is in silence that the heart hears.
Forgive me for my transgressions.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Help me to see my way.
Lead me into the Light when I am lost in darkness.
I am your humble servant, and I seek your Divine Grace.
This I ask of you on this fasting day in the holy month of Ramadan.
Let my body feel the pain of hunger—
But allow my soul to receive the gifts of Salvation and Mercy.
Ameen.
