24/6/2022 – Rambling on Faith and Fortune (Refined)
In this era of digital media, numerous self-proclaimed crusaders have emerged in defense of their religious faiths—some charismatic enough to garner large followings through YouTube videos and other online platforms. Alongside them are authentic spiritual teachers, both contemporary and past, who offer insight, healing, and guidance. Names like Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Mooji, Eckhart Tolle, and Swami Sarvapriyananda of the New York Vedanta Society come to mind. Similarly, timeless figures such as the Dalai Lama, the late Thich Nhat Hanh, and those whose legacies endure through recorded talks and books—Alan Watts, J. Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Ramakrishna, Papaji, and Nisargadatta Maharaj —also stand out.
What is remarkable about most of these masters is that they rarely, if ever, condemn another religion to promote their own. Their teachings are inclusive, tolerant, and rooted in unity rather than division.
Religious faith, at its essence, is profoundly personal. It is shaped by one’s unique understanding and perception. When someone else presumes to define or critique your faith for you, it’s like allowing another to yank you around by the nose. That’s not strength in faith—it’s a dangerous weakness. Truth, much like reality, is complex and rarely grasped by the ordinary, conditioned mind. Those who are spiritually awakened see deeper, past the illusions of the world (Maya), beyond the filters of culture and ego.
Yet today, many self-anointed critics of religion, often armed with cherry-picked knowledge and half-baked theories, use their platforms to attack faiths they do not understand. One such example is Robert Spencer, whose relentless and almost personal attacks against Islam and its Prophet border on obsession. He questions even the Prophet Muhammad’s existence in history. One wonders what drives such hostility—fame, fortune, or a deeper ideological motive?
These individuals build platforms by exploiting spiritual ignorance. They become "authorities" overnight, fueling division and distrust between religions. I call them what they are—minions of the Ungodly, tools of the Dajaal or Antichrist, knowingly or not sowing doubt, fear, and hatred in the hearts of the spiritually vulnerable.
My advice? Do your own research. Don't outsource your faith. Don’t be easily seduced by eloquence, citations, or selective quotes. In this era of information, it is laziness, not lack of access, that leaves one blind.
When anyone attacks a religion, they attack the very spirit of humanity. Such efforts benefit neither God, nor the accused, nor even the attacker’s own faith. As the Prophet Muhammad is said to have reminded us: “The finger that points in blame has four others pointing back at itself.”
Religious hatred often masks deeper fears—cultural insecurity, racial supremacy, or ideological control. Whether it comes from white supremacists, Zionist extremists, or militant groups like Al-Qaeda, the intent is the same: to dismantle humanity’s spiritual unity.
No religion is perfect, nor is any human. But religion, for all its flaws, has historically acted as a stabilizing force. The fear of karma, hell, or divine retribution has kept many societies from descending into chaos. Tragically, that fear is waning. Greed, hate, and ignorance have become dominant forces, legitimizing a dangerous freedom to "do as thou wilt."
Humanity is crying out for healing, not more conflict. The days of crusades and jihads belong to history. We must reject divisive rhetoric and embrace that which unites us. Evil still exists—whether we call it The Shadow (Jung), Mara (Buddhism), The Trickster (Native belief), or Dajaal (Islam). Denying this is denying the spiritual consciousness that separates man from beast.
The choice is yours. As the X-Files reminds us: “The Truth is Out There.” And as every great master will tell you: “The Truth is Within.”
You have free will. Use it wisely.
