27/3/2013 – The Power of Now

How do I spend my money?
A question that haunts us all. We barter, we bargain, always trying to get the most for the least. But where did all the money go? What did I do with it? The left hand hardly noticed what the right received.

Money—an uncomfortable subject. Like most, I often feel there’s never enough. I’ve never taken a financial course, never managed accounts with mathematical precision. I’ve lived by prioritizing what’s most needed, whether for myself or those under my care—my loved ones.

A new laptop for my daughter. Half the cost of a much-needed washing machine. Car repairs. The daily necessities—food, fuel, and the occasional coffee shop conversation with a friend.

I could list out every transaction, but I won’t. Instead, I choose to appreciate what money allows me to do—to be here, now. To sit and write these words, to translate thoughts into keystrokes, to confront whatever stirs in my mind. This moment, right here, is what money has afforded me.

As I write, my friend Salim performs his Asar prayers in the next cubicle. Remembering God has brought me to this very awareness.

Are you with me?
Do you see what I see?
Feel what I feel?
Or are we so far apart that understanding has eluded us?

I am you. You are me.
We are the Universe.
SATORI. MOKSHA. TAFAKUR. AT-ONE-NESS.
Being present in the here and now—I AM THAT, I AM.

So how does one justify spending?
Certainly not by spending more than we earn. Not by having no income at all. That leaves only one path: release attachment. Let it go. Money comes and goes. It is and it is not. It, too, is a projection—our own manifestation.

Eat when you are hungry.
Sleep when you are tired.
Sit. Write. Breathe. Watch the grass grow.

Life is fleeting—ever-changing. Even as you read this, even as I type, time is slipping through our fingers. Every moment arises and fades. Yet we cling to the impermanent, losing touch with the eternal truth of who we are.

Humanity is in peril—not just socially or politically, but spiritually. We are asleep at the wheel, hurtling towards self-destruction, gripped by ego, greed, and fear. We train ourselves—and our children—to kill without conscience. We glorify the machinery of death and justify it in the name of survival, power, and pride.

We need to wake up.

Our collective reality is shaped by our inner fear and delusion. We are not separate from the world—we are the world. Only by freeing ourselves from the egoic mind can we transform the collective human spirit.

As Eckhart Tolle wrote in The Power of Now:

“Just as the images in a dream are symbols of inner states and feelings, so our collective reality is largely a symbolic expression of fear and the heavy layers of negativity that have accumulated in the collective human psyche. We are not separate from our world...”

For every bullet, for every missile, for every weapon sold, there is a potential life lost. An innocent. A child. Yet the global economy thrives on this madness. It is insanity, and we must call it what it is.

We were chosen as Khalifas—caretakers of this Earth. Every creature depends on us, and if we fail to evolve, to awaken, to shift our consciousness toward compassion, we fail not just ourselves, but we fail God.

We must awaken individually so that we may awaken collectively.
The great teachers—the Buddha, Christ, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—have shown the way. Their lessons were not mere sermons; they were lived truths, embodied examples of transformation.

The mind is a powerful tool—like fire. It can heal or it can destroy.
Let us use it wisely, for the time is short and the stakes are high.

God Willing. Insha’Allah.
