The Noise Within and the Light of the Prophet ﷺ
This morning, after completing my rituals of wudhu, sitting in silence, zikr, and some gentle yoga stretches, I found myself pulled once more into the noise of the world. It came not from within, but through the screen — postings on social media about the salaries of political leaders, which to my senses carried the smell of provocation. It felt less like information and more like fuel, fanning the flames of unrest that are rising in Indonesia today.
I could not help myself. I needed to respond. My words were not born out of anger, but out of concern for my brothers and sisters, that they might not fall victim to incitement and chaos. For when the people are stirred by those who exploit pain for their own agenda, the ones who truly suffer are always the ordinary men, women, and children.
As I sat with this, I was reminded that today is no ordinary day. It is the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the Messenger of Allah, the light of mercy to the worlds. How timely the reminder! For he too lived amidst injustice, corruption, and persecution. Yet his response was never destruction for its own sake. It was patience. It was wisdom. It was compassion that disarmed even his fiercest enemies.
The noise in my mind this morning, perhaps, was not something to be suppressed, but something to be transformed. Transformed into remembrance: that the Prophet’s way is the way of steadfastness, of turning the chaos of the world into a call for prayer.
So instead of throwing stones in anger, let us throw down our sajadahs in surrender. Instead of burning property, let us burn away the arrogance within. Instead of shouting in rage, let us raise our hands in doa, for the hearts of rulers, for the fate of nations, and for the peace of all people.
On this blessed day, may we remember:
The Prophet’s greatest victory was not in the battlefield, but in the conquering of hearts through mercy.
Salam Maulidur Rasul. 🌺
