Alignment – Preparing the Field

Complete Innocence is the Key -  'A Bigginner's Mind'

 Alignment – Preparing the Field

It was 3:30 in the morning when I woke from an almost erotic dream. Strange how rare they come these days, and how strong the longing still feels when they do. I sat for a while with the residue of the dream, then turned to meditation — to release the tension, to let the body and mind return to balance. And in that stillness, the question of alignment arose.

Alignment, I realize, happens in stages. It begins simply by waking up — whether from ordinary sleep or from the kind of sleepwalking that most of us do through life. With the right intention and attention, one can step into the process almost effortlessly: sitting, breathing, being present.

The body comes first. Sitting upright, feeling the length of the spinal column, letting the breath find its natural rhythm — these are small gestures, yet they realign the body with itself. Even the aches and pains have their place, for they remind me of where energy is blocked. Through breath, tension releases; inflammation softens; the vessel feels lighter.

Then comes the mind. Thoughts hover, rushing here and there, and the ego steps forward as if it were a drill sergeant shouting orders: “I am making this happen!” But with patient breathing and a touch of detachment, the noise settles. Silence opens.

From here, the soul appears. For me, as a Muslim, this is where zikr and doa enter — remembrance and prayer, not only for myself but for family, teachers, and those who have passed on. I call upon the Lord to show mercy to the suffering in Gaza and in every corner of the earth. In this, the ego loses its grip, because the heart turns outward, remembering that I am not separate but part of the whole of humanity.

And then there is the spirit. At this stage, it no longer feels like “I” am the one doing anything. It is as though a greater hand has taken over, aligning me with something vast and timeless. To be Muslim is to call upon Allah’s Redha — acceptance of His will — and to invoke His Mercy and Compassion. This final alignment is not an achievement, but a call from God, a reminder of who truly holds all things in place.

In Hermetic teachings, there is the notion of preparing the “Field” — the inner ground made ready for higher forces to descend. I find in Islam a deep echo of this idea: wudhu purifies the vessel, zikr guards the empty space, doa turns the heart outward in compassion, and Redha hands it all over to Allah. Different words, different languages of spirit, but the gesture is the same: to prepare the soil so the seeds of spirit may take root.

So alignment is less about reaching some lofty state and more about preparing, softening, and opening. It is tending the Field — or the Heart — in the quiet hours of the morning, after a dream, a breath, and a turning toward the One.
