Morning Has Broken! It's Friday!
DEVOTIONAL INTERLUDE: A Morning Supplication
Subḥān’Allāh… Bismillāh… Al-ḥamdu lillāh, Ar-Raḥmān, Ar-Raḥīm...
I surrender my soul before Your Throne,
in complete submission to Your Will.
I supplicate in silence and faith this very morning —
let the Universe bear witness:
the half-moon above,
the single-strike lightning,
The empty laments of a servant
spoken from the heart
and delivered through the remembrance of You,
with verses from the Book of Books.
I bow before You —
within and without —
in Love and in Devotion.
Shower Your mercy and blessings upon our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
Āmīn, yā Rabb.
Allah has created my soul to serve.
I do not wish to sound overly intense —
But I come close.
I am at His Mercy. I am at His Compassion.
And words can only sober the feelings —
They hold back the mind from overpowering the heart.
What I am confessing
are my fears,
my weaknesses,
my assumptions and arrogance,
my habits,
my idiosyncrasies,
my drifting,
my sleep-walking…
I surrender them all before my Lord —
for His Redha, His Good Pleasure.
Protect me, O Lord, from Your Wrath and Your Tests.
Protect me from Your Disappointment,
from Your Turning Away.
Love me, my Lord,
as You loved me when You first created me —
When I beheld only Your Truth and Beauty.
Before You placed me here, in this present form and state.
I ask not for Heaven,
nor do I seek protection from Hell.
I ask only that I be allowed and assisted
to perform the role you have written for me.
Protect me from my own self —
from my nafs,
from the whisperings of jinn and shayṭān in my heart and soul.
Grant me Your Redha, O Lord,
in all that I perform,
all that I dream,
all that I believe in.
Allāhu Akbar.
