3 Years in Sendai – Life begins with Ramen and Sushi.

Welcome to Sendai - Your Shogun

                                                                If there is any doubt.

3 Years in Sendai – 2

My wife’s employer, Kawaijuku Bunri, a respected prep school, was meticulous and kind in handling our relocation. From the moment we arrived, we had no worries—they took care of everything. Just three days after stepping foot in Sendai, we were moved into our apartment on the fifth floor of the DIA Palace Yasoen.

                                                             The Koyo Grand Lobby!

The building sat on a gentle rise with only one single-lane road winding past it. In one direction, just a five-minute walk away, was the children’s Yōchien (kindergarten). In the other, the Yasoen Gardens, a quiet wildflower preserve next to the Sendai Hōsō TV station, its three tall antenna towers lighting up the night sky with soft colors as they reported the weather.

My first ride on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Sendai- The Max Yamabiko

Winter in Yasoen was mesmerizing. Snow would blanket everything—rooftops, trees, the narrow road—and all we could see was white, peaceful, and still. It felt like a dreamscape; a hush had fallen over the world.

                                                                    Spring in Sendai.

Rustic Japanese Gardens fed my creative energy.

The apartment itself came fully furnished—even the kitchen was stocked with pots and pans. Simply stepping into this new life felt like receiving a gift. Living in that environment, surrounded by such calm and order, was the first time in a long while I felt grounded.
