We Arrived in Sendai in the Early Spring.
🏯 Another Gateless Gate Opens: Sendai, Japan
There are gates made of wood and stone, and there are those you walk through with no sign, no sound, no ceremony.
Only a shift in the wind. A new weight in the soul.
That is how I entered Sendai, Japan.
My heart surrendered, my soul captured.
The Yamdera Mountain Retreat. Yamagata Prefecture.I didn’t arrive as a seeker or a tourist.
I came as a man carrying memory, walking alongside his family, looking for quiet ground.
After loss, after longing, after America had run its course.
What I found in Sendai was not just another city.
It was a place where grief slowly thawed.
Where the morning trains whispered sutras.
Where the seasons carried the discipline of monks.
The Japanese don’t talk much.
But they notice everything.
And in that silent noticing, I learned to listen again.
Another Gateless Gate.
No need to knock.
Just bow—and enter.
