This sequence of actions was not planned but stumbled upon, call it synchronicity.

I am feeling like I’m sitting in the old Penang Ferry, crossing the channel from Georgetown to Butterworth. Or like I’m back in the wheelhouse of the fishing vessel Iceland, piloting that old tub through wind and fog toward Dutch Harbor, Alaska, or being in the belly of a Boeing 777 plane headed for Dubai. It’s the sound, the vibration of the engine, that permeates my entire being like the low hum of a mantra—an ancient frequency of motion and memory.

All this arose from a simple act of listening.
