Storms come and go—within and without.

Butterflies - Red White and Blue...

After the Storm Within

It is a storm out there—thunder and lightning, wind and rain in these wee hours of 3:00 a.m. Yet here I sit upon my meditation cushion, reaching toward my Lord for Love and Compassion, Blessings and Forgiveness. Grateful simply to be alive, grateful that I still have the opportunity to whisper His Holy Name in the deepest chamber of my heart.

I am beginning to understand what alignment feels like—within and without. I glimpse the difference between what is Real and what is impermanent. Thoughts come and go. Feelings arise and pass. All are mental formations. I remain the awareness in which they appear. Consciousness expressing itself through this temporary physical form.

There is no greater freedom than surrendering to the Will of the Almighty and receiving His Grace and Mercy. I am His servant. I live from day to day, from moment to moment, in servitude.

My life is simple. I am a father, an artist, and a writer. I sweep the floor. I wash the dishes. I drive my children to and from work. I feed the cats and water the plants. I visit my friends, sharing the space and time of their existence. I listen to their stories and share my own, hoping that together we may lighten the burdens we each carry as we walk this path.

This is enough.

This is worship.

This is the life I have been given.

As I finish writing these words, I notice that the storm outside has subsided.

The sky clears.
The heart remembers.
The One remains.

Ameen.

Wallahu A'lam.
