Good Morning, Universe
I woke a little later than usual this morning. There was no need to send my son off to work, so the day began at a slower pace. It took a little effort to get myself moving, but once I did, the simple rituals of the morning carried me forward.
The dishes were washed, the floor swept, and the clothes brought in just before the expected rain. The cats received their share of attention, reminding me once again that they live entirely in the present moment.
I prepared my usual morning drink—ginger, cinnamon, and honey—and settled down with the sound of Southern Blues drifting from the television. As the music filled the room, I found myself sketching a Black blues musician lost in the soulful cry of his harmonica. There is something timeless about the blues. It speaks of hardship without surrender, sorrow without despair, and hope without needing to announce itself.
Later, I stepped outside onto the porch with my morning cigarette. Looking out at the world awakening, I found myself offering a quiet greeting, not just to the day, but to the universe itself.
Assalamualaikum.
May Allah bless this day with peace, harmony, and the quiet strength to accomplish whatever lies before us. Productivity need not be measured by grand achievements. Sometimes it is enough simply to care for our home, nourish our spirit, create something with our hands, and greet the morning with gratitude.
Perhaps that is a successful day already.
Wallahu A'lam.
