Life: The Journey Toward True Awareness - posted 25/8/2016
Life is mostly about relationships—the relationship between one's and the rest of the universe, no matter the form, color, creed, or status. Life is about unconditional love for this God-given planet in all its vastness, without any conditions. It’s about “kindly bending to ease the pain and discomfort of others”—not judging right or wrong in the outer world, but simply acting with skillful means, as any compassionate human being would.
Life is about sharing whatever we can with those in need, the destitute, and the downtrodden—not hoarding wealth as monuments of personal success. It’s not about demanding what is not rightfully yours or taking what is not given. Life is giving and taking with respect and reason, without causing harm to others.
Life is about giving support to those who need it, so they can continue on their journey with ease, knowing help is there when they ask for it. It’s not about judging others’ frailties, but helping them move forward.
Life is about recognizing what is true and what is false, what is real and what is illusion, what is everlasting and what is impermanent. It is about feeling the freedom that comes from within and sharing it outwardly. Life is about knowing when to quit, when to say “enough is enough,” before greed becomes a habit. It is about giving back what has been given to you, so that growth and progress can benefit all, rather than hoarding wealth for selfish purposes.
Life is about being true to yourself, knowing who you truly are in the grand scheme of things. It’s not about becoming a hypocrite, saying what is not meant, or practicing what is not believed, just to pacify the masses or gain acceptance. Life is being true to yourself and living authentically.
It may take a lifetime to understand the meaning of life—or it might take a split second of enlightenment. In either case, life is the allotted time and space we have to journey toward self-discovery and become fully enlightened beings—Al Insan Kamil, the Perfect Man, as the Muslims would say.
Most of mankind continues to live in ignorance, living day-to-day, oblivious to the higher virtues of existence. We are sucked into a thought-driven lifestyle that merely scratches the surface of life. We float, like flotsam on the surface of the ocean, drifting aimlessly until we can drift no longer and finally settle. In this stagnant state, we ferment and eventually rot into sediment at the ocean's bottom.
Most of humanity is destined for the slaughterhouse, living a life that is prefabricated by those who control the destiny of the human race. The narratives shredded across the internet—on YouTube and elsewhere—are not far from the truth, if carefully observed. We, as humans, are being manipulated in countless ways, living according to the dictates of powerful groups at the top of the food chain.
Conspiracy theorists may raise awareness about these global threats, but the majority of people still ignore or dismiss them. Our educational systems shy away from addressing these looming issues, and we live in denial of the environmental collapse around us. Our air, water, and earth are being polluted on a daily basis by man-made chemicals. Our health is threatened by viruses, some even man-made. Yet we continue, as though nothing is wrong.
Philosophers, religions, spiritualists, and scientists—both past and present—have warned us of the dangers we face, but we continue in our ignorance or denial. We are the cancer eating away at our planet. We must recognize that we are responsible for the state of our world, but we remain too wrapped up in survival mode to take meaningful action.
How many of us are truly paying attention to what the enlightened ones—past and present—are trying to tell us? In terms of the percentage of the population, it’s barely a drop. Most live as though life is simply about eating, sleeping, and dying. And while we're at it, "make hay while the sun shines," right?
