Human Being vs. Being Human: A Mystic Inquiry

Human Being vs. Being Human: A Mystic Inquiry

We often use the terms “human being” and “being human” interchangeably—but are they truly the same?

This question, simple in its phrasing yet profound in its implications, invites us to look deeper into our nature, our consciousness, and our place in the cosmos.

🧍‍♂️ What Is a Human Being?

A human being is a label—an identity—given to a biological creature, classified scientifically as Homo sapiens. It points to the form: flesh, bone, thoughts, emotions, memories, roles. It is what we are in terms of society, genealogy, nationality.

But it’s also a costume.

A human being is:

  • A person with a name, a history, and a story.

  • A bundle of habits and inherited ideas.

  • A vessel traveling through time, carrying its baggage.

The human being is the noun.

🌌 What Is Being Human?

Being human is not a noun. It is a verb—a way of living, responding, and realizing. It is awareness in action, consciousness embodied, and compassion expressed.

Being human is:

  • To suffer and still show kindness.

  • To fall and rise without bitterness.

  • To recognize your pain in another—and respond with love.

It is to be vulnerable, real, awake—a spark of the Infinite expressing through imperfection.

🪞 The Spiritual Mirror

A human being is the costume.
Being human is the play of consciousness.
Beyond both, there is only Being—the witness.

As spiritual traditions suggest:

“We are not human beings trying to be spiritual.
We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Or deeper still:

“We are Being itself—temporarily expressing through the human form.”

🐾 When Humans Become More Animalistic Than Animals

Another question arises in contrast:

“Why are human beings capable of greater cruelty than animals?”

Because animals operate by instinct—they kill to survive, not for ideology, pride, or power. They do not torture. They do not orchestrate genocide.

Humans, endowed with imagination, free will, and ego, can:

  • Kill for ideas.

  • Destroy for profit.

  • Manipulate with intelligence.

Thus, we can fall lower than animals—when our consciousness is asleep.

But likewise, we can rise higher than angels—when awareness awakens.

“Man is the bridge between the beast and the divine.”

🧠 Are We Being Manipulated by Demonic Forces?

Many religious traditions speak of devils and demons—external forces manipulating human nature. But are they real?

Yes and no.

  • In myth and religion: Devils tempt us away from our divine nature.

  • In psychology: Demons are our shadow selves—traumas, suppressed desires, ego projections.

  • In mysticism: These forces symbolize ignorance—the illusion of separateness from Source.

  • In esotericism: Some teachings suggest energetic entities (archons, parasites) feeding off unconscious souls.

Whatever the lens, the answer is the same:

“Evil has no power over the awakened.
The moment you see it, it disappears.”

🧘‍♂️ The Choice: Forgetfulness or Presence

To be a human being is not enough.
To be human is the beginning of awakening.
To be—fully present, aware, unconditioned—is the path to liberation.

So...

  • Do not cling to the role.

  • Do not get lost in the story.

  • Do not blame your shadows on devils.

Instead, be aware.
Live with compassion.
And return to that timeless Witness within.

✨ Closing Mantra

I am not this name.
I am not this story.
I am not even this mind.
I am That—I am Being.
