How to Uneducate My Mind – Part 3: Silence, the Thread of the Divine
Silence is the way towards a peaceful and contemplative mind—a mind that can encompass all in one unified point, in the here and now. The Divine Presence is here. Time and space hold no sway over Spirit, just as they cannot bind the vastness of ultimate consciousness, which we call the mind. Only in deep prayer can it be glimpsed, if not contained.
Prayer is the highest form of human expression toward the Unknown—that which lies beyond our comprehension. It is the purest discipline of the mind, the truest Yoga. To pray is to surrender, to humble the ego—the false ruler of our inner kingdom. It is to bow the "small mind," as the Zen Buddhists call it—the monkey mind, as Thich Nhat Hanh would say. Even the atheist prays deep in the heart, silently affirming that they walk the right path, perhaps praying to a higher version of themselves.
We are all interconnected beings—threads in a vast net, a living web. Like a spider weaving its entire universe from a single silken strand, so too were we birthed from One Source. Scientists call it the Big Bang, but before that, perhaps we were a single floating atom adrift in timelessness. And of all creatures, seen and unseen, we were gifted with the greatest faculty: consciousness. Yet most choose to fall asleep and dream their waking life, unaware.
Some say we were created in the image of God. Some say we are God, playing roles in a divine drama. Others claim all is illusion—that even the "I" itself does not truly exist. But no matter what we believe, it is our birthright, our duty, to inquire: Who am I? What is my relationship with you, with this universe, with the One who breathes me into being?
When you have glimpsed your true nature—that original, unborn Buddha Nature… the Ruhul Qudus… the Atman… that ever-present witness—you will come face-to-face with your Higher Self. The Source. The spider’s strand, flowing from the unseen. The Universe, God, Brahman, the Tao, the Great Spirit—having a good time through you.
The journey of a thousand miles begins where you are. That first step might be your last, or it might carry you into eternity. The question is: how far are you willing to go? Are your feet nailed to the floor? Are you carrying too heavy a burden? That’s your choice. You are free.
You can accept life as it is and believe there is nothing beyond it. Or you can live life fully, knowing that what you plant today is already germinating—that you are the creator of your own paradise, or your own hell.
And yes, sometimes the laws of karma suck. But still, we move, we pray, we unlearn, we wake.
