Virtues of Ayat al-Kursi
Revealed in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255), Ayat al-Kursi — The Throne Verse — is regarded by the Prophet ﷺ as the greatest verse in the Qur’an.
It contains the very essence of Tawḥīd, affirming Allah’s Absolute Oneness, Eternal Life, and infinite Knowledge and Power.
The Prophet ﷺ taught that:

Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing stands between him and Paradise except death.

Whoever recites it before sleep is guarded by Allah, and no devil approaches until morning.
-
It is among the most powerful verses for protection, healing, and peace — a shield of Light that surrounds the believer inwardly and outwardly.
This meditative recitation is intended to help the seeker experience the verse — not only as words, but as living presence within the heart.🌿
Ayat al-Kursi: A Meditative Recitation
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ
Allāhu Lā Ilāha Illā Huwa
Allah—there is no god but He.
Begin by sitting quietly.
Close your eyes and breathe in the remembrance.
Let the words echo within the heart until the “I” dissolves,
and only Hu remains.
الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ
Al-Ḥayy, Al-Qayyūm
The Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting.
Inhale softly with Al-Ḥayy — feel the Life within every breath.
Exhale gently with Al-Qayyūm — surrender into His sustaining embrace.
You are not breathing — He is breathing through you.
لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ
Lā ta’khudhuhu sinatun walā nawm
Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him.
The Light that watches through your eyes never sleeps.
Rest in that awareness — still, awake, eternal.
The Divine is always alert within you.
لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ
Lahu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ
To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth.
With each breath out, release possession and attachment.
Whisper: All is Yours, O Allah.
Feel your heart become vast as the sky,
empty of self, filled with Him.
مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ
Man dhalladhī yashfaʿu ʿindahu illā bi-idhnih
Who can intercede with Him except by His permission?
Nothing reaches Him but what He Himself draws near.
Let your prayer arise not from desire, but from surrender.
The call and the answer are one.
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ
Yaʿlamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum
He knows what is before them and what is behind them.
Dwell in the eternal Now —
The past and future dissolve in His presence.
Only this divine moment remains.
وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ
Wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi shay’in min ʿilmihi illā bimā shā’
They encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills.
Bow your mind before the infinite Mystery.
Knowledge is a ray of His sun —
You see only what He allows to shine through.
وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ
Wasiʿa kursiyyuhu as-samāwāti wal-arḍ
His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth.
The Kursi is the Heart illuminated —
vast enough to hold creation.
Whisper within: My heart is the Throne of the All-Merciful.
وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا
Wa lā ya’ūdhu ḥifẓuhumā
Preserving them tires Him not.
Feel the effortless rhythm of the universe —
galaxies turning, hearts beating — all sustained in silence.
His Will flows without strain.
وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Wa Huwa al-ʿAliyyu al-ʿAẓīm
And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
Bow your head.
All that you see, all that you are,
returns to the One beyond height and measure.
Closing Supplication
Allāhumma anta al-Ḥayy al-Qayyūm, bi-raḥmatika astaghīth.
O Allah, You are the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining; by Your mercy I seek relief.
Remain in silence for a few breaths.
When you open your eyes,
let your gaze be soft —
seeing everything as part of His Light.
