The Caramel & Nuts Cookie Maker.- Sungai Pinang Food Court.

On the lighter side of life, for those who enjoy the traditional peanut-caramel cookie made by the Chinese I hope these pictures will give you an idea of how they come into being.

With his permission i took the series also in the hope that it will serve as a record of yet another man's passion for what he does as his vocation.

Not much of a talker so i could not stick around to find out more about himself and his work. Perhaps in time I can warm up to him and sit and shoot the breeze about life over a Kopi o peng, or black coffee with ice a favorite of most locals.

Watching him does his thing was like watching a Zem master perform the tea ceremony, there were no wasteful movements all were spontaneously done like a donce.

This is meditation n action, no thoughts needed but just pure action and if there had been any thought involved it most probably would have caused a discord of one kind or another in the whole performance.

How often we pass by such a man doing what he dos without any sense of doing it even when there are people staring at him while he works. He was like a potter on the throwing wheel creating his latest bowl or vase.

And right before your eyes he manifested something the you have been taking for granted ever since you have been buying those chewy, nutty caramel cookies that you have no idea what the Chinese calls them in the first place.

In his appearence and motions he reminded me of the Japanese master Sushi chefs wrapped in his task preparing some exotic combinations of rice balls and fish roes.

This is Art, this is creativity and this is meditation in action as i will never get tired of saying.

And the wife sprinkles sugar on top of the cookies as a final touch watched by the Gungnam Korean dancer from her Tshirt.

And if you ever visit the Sungai Pinang Food court in Penang do say hello to the man who is the master pastry maker in the area.
