An Evening at the Floating Mosque of Terengga

One evening I decided to take a slow walk around the Floating Mosque  which has a sentimental value to me personally as it was designed by a childhood friend with whom I used to play cowboys and Indians in the palace grounds of    Istana Badariah located along Jalan Batu Buruk  in Kuala Terengganu.

The Floating Mosque or Tengku Tengah Zaharah is truly a wonderful sight to behold and the first real floating mosque in Malaysia. It is situated in Kuala Ibai Lagoon near the estuary of Kuala Ibai River, 4 Km from Kuala Terengganu Town. Construction began on 1993 till 1995 and the mosque was officially opened in July 1995 by Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, the late Sultan of Terengganu. The mosque combines modern and Moorish architecture; incorporating the use of marble, ceramics, mosaic works and bomanite paving. The white structure of the mosque covers an area of roughly 5 acres. It can accommodate up to 2000 attendees at a time.
Strangely enough all these pictures were taken on the same evening using the same camera.Only the time  taken was different and so the location.

The Masjid Tengku Tengah Zaharah (Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque) which is situated about 4Km from Kuala Terengganu Centre, is built on a floating platform and is also known as the "The Floating Mosque of the East" due to its unique design that creates an illusion of itself as floating on water. This magnificent and unique Mosque are named after one of the matriarch in the Terengganu Royal house, the mosque are in perfect harmony with the natural ,was touched and designed by YM Raja Datuk Kamarul Bahrin Shah, a very well known Malaysian architect who himself a Prince coming from the Terengganu royal house.
