Penang Space Festival - Space Art

It was two days of fun and excitement at the Penang Space Festival with two Visiting dignitaries from NASA, USA.
After weesk of trying out what to present as a space art demo for the kids iI have to thank Google for providing the solution in the do it yourself Website that had something I needed.
The school kids seemed to have a good time watching the 'Miracle of Space Art'
Armed with spray cans and some household utensils I created some out of sight space pictures.

The Sacrifice - Aidil Adha -

God said to Abraham, Kill Me a Son! Abe said No! God said What, then if you see Me you better run! Abe said where you want this killing done? God said, down on Highway 61! Till this day the Muslims has been carrying God's order to sacrifice in lieu of a son all other edible creatures like cattle and goats and such.
Armed with sharp knives all the men headed for the nearest community Mosques and Suraus where the killing is done and  chipped in to get the job done.
Some say that it is gruesome to share such pictures with the general public but I say I used to be a boner and on an average day we slaughtered some one hundred cattle to turn them into hamburgers for the meat packing plants in green Bay, Wisconsin, USA. People need to see what they eat or are fed with.
I see beauty in even the macabre or downright  hideous  as it is all a part of the whole and only the hypocrite will see otherwise.

This is a labor of love, time spent for the benefit of society as a whole, a 'Gotong Royong' as the Malays call it. It is also a religious affair where God's covenant with Man is fulfilled. Where beliefs and religious are handed down for generations to come, if not for anything else it helps for the young to not fear or abhor the slaughter of  domesticated animals for consumption.

Most of the meat are packed and delivered to the homes of the poor in and around the villages and the whole scene is looked upon as a festive occasion as the intention is such, to celebrate the Aidil Adha, the Muslim celebration of the completion of the Haj in Mecca.
Oh ya, I told this guy i used to be a bonner for three and a half years and i carry on the palm of my left hand fourteen stitches as a memento to remind me of the vocation; say, how about using a hook instead of your hand to pick on the meat, it helps!

Quotes For my Four Kids - (if they read)

"A mind that has come to the stillness of wisdom ”shall know being, shall know what it is to love. Love is neither personal nor impersonal. Love is love, not to be defined or described by the mind as exclusive or inclusive. Love is its own eternity; it is the real, the supreme, the immeasurable.”
The First And Last Freedom 6 Jiddu Krishnamurti
CHAPTER 1. FOREWORD BY ALDOUS HUXLEY

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.
Bruce Lee
There are four questions of value in life... What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love.
Johnny Depp

I think my passion is misinterpreted as anger sometimes. And I don't think people are ready for the message that I'm delivering, and delivering with a sense of violent love.
Charlie Sheen
A child-like man is not a man whose development has been arrested; on the contrary, he is a man who has given himself a chance of continuing to develop long after most adults have muffled themselves in the cocoon of middle-aged habit and convention.

Aldous Huxley
It is a bit embarrassing to have been concerned with the human problem all one's life and find at the end that one has no more to offer by way of advice than 'try to be a little kinder.'

The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude.
Aldous Huxley

Violence among young people is an aspect of their desire to create. They don't know how to use their energy creatively so they do the opposite and destroy.
Anthony Burgess

The country needs and, unless I mistake its temper, the country demands bold, persistent, experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it, if it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.
Anthony Burgess

Do not be misled by what you see around you, or be influenced by what you see. You live in a world which is a playground of illusion, full of false paths, false values and false ideals. But you are not part of that world.
Sai Baba

What matters is to live in the present, live now, for every moment is now. It is your thoughts and acts of the moment that create your future. The outline of your future path already exists, for you created its pattern by your past.
Sai Baba You must be a lotus, unfolding its petals when the sun rises in the sky, unaffected by the slush where it is born or even the water which sustains it!

Clint Eastwood
Crimes against children are the most heinous crime. That, for me, would be a reason for capital punishment because children are innocent and need the guidance of an adult society.
Clint Eastwood
I'm just a kid - I've got a lot of stuff to do yet.
Clint Eastwood
If you think it's going to rain, it will.

Just as the world is spinning out of control around me so is my mind making great effort to skip out of its orbit; get itself removed from the magnetic pull of the Global insanity of War and exploitations oppressions and suppression , of moral and mental decay, of disregard for compassion for human lives. There is no escape from what is and what is not exactly a great picture for anyone in their right mind to digest even for the Rishis and Lamas in the mountains of the Himalayas as they live under the oppression of one form or another. Here in my country newly born infants are found in toilet bowls and the rich are bound and determine to out do one another at the expense of their fellow poor.A child is shot by a fanatic for expressing her outrage against inhumane act against the rights of women in Pakistan;  madness at its worse manifestation. What are we becoming if not worse than the animals in our acts and we keep claiming how civilized we have become. When Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old peace activist from Pakistan, raised her voice against terrorism and advocated education for girls, she was shot at and seriously injured by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which triggered a wave of revulsion with girls across the nation saying ‘I am Malala' in support of the braveheart

We are ever ready to die in defense of our faith and beliefs but blatantly ignore our corruptions and accept injustice if it is done unto others. We are willing to spend all our wealth to go on pilgrimage ( some more than necessary), visit our holy lands while our neighbors scourge the streets for survival. When will we ever learn?

That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.
My mechanic friend, Ah Huat' told eme to chill and not take upon my mind too much of the negative vibes that is affecting our humanity as there is not much that can be done about it but  will only give me migraines. My eldest brother came to visit and left but there was hardly any bonding between us anymore; we were like strangers; then again we never did too much talking in the past anyway. As I approach the end of my days I am beginning to see the futility of my existence, I am just another 'brick in the wall'. I find myself being here just to fulfill the option of being given life and time to live my life out. I watch my children each manifesting their own characters and i wonder what will become of them; I feel more fortunate than most others whose children has fallen to drug addiction or crushed under lorry while riding home from school. Chill, my mechanic friend said, all these are part and parcel of your own manifestations. How I wish my mind can be like his; concerned only with the nuts and bolts and what makes the engine run.
In my country politics has become a decease of the mind, the cause for fighting is no more the right to justice and freedom but what is in it for me, my wife and kids. sit and listen in any coffee shop and all you hear is how the government or the opposition is corrupted one no better than the other or how the people are being bamboozled by those they elected in the past and there is none that they can trust to replace these in the future. Most man on the street are at a lost, scared and disillusioned and most have given up hope for any consolation as their fate and the fate of their future generations are being played like a game of Monopoly by those in power. Most I have talked to have practically lost their faith in country ever being able to correct itself for a better future and the specter of racial confrontation looms in the horizon. Dear God, when will we ever learn?
And the point is...

"The problems of the world are so colossal, so very complex, that to understand and so
to resolve them one must approach them in a very simple and direct manner; and simplicity,
directness, do not depend on outward circumstances nor on our particular prejudices and moods.
As I was pointing out, the solution is not to be found through conferences, blueprints, or through
the substitution of new leaders for old, and so on, The solution obviously lies in the creator of that
problem, in the creator of the mischief, of the hate and of the enormous misunderstanding that exists
between human beings, The creator of this mischief, the creator of these problems, is the individual,
you and I, not the world as we think of it. The world is your relationship with another. The world is
not something separate from you and me; the world, society, is the relationship that we establish or
seek to establish between each other..."
Hence, like a dog barking up a tree, I write my thoughts out just because and I seek the words and thoughts of wisdom so as to share with those who are with me in some small way understand the why or how. I am find myself not too far off the mark when i embarked upon this self- study, this self discovery of who I am and how i fit in the scheme of things. Although I still find myself whirling and drowning into the cesspool that is called living, I am comforted by the fact that the answers are readily available if i look for them hard enough and the Internet has been a boon in this respect.

"So you and I are the problem, and not the world, because the world is the projection of ourselves
and to understand the world we must understand ourselves. That world is not separate from us;
we are the world, and our problems are the world’s problems. This cannot be repeated too often,
because we are so sluggish in our mentality that we think the world’s problems are not our business,
that they have to be resolved by the United Nations or by substituting new leaders for the old. It
is a very dull mentality that thinks like that, because we are responsible for this frightful misery
and confusion in the world, this ever-impending war. To transform the world, we must begin with
ourselves; and what is important in beginning with ourselves is the intention. The intention must
be to understand ourselves and not to leave it to others to transform themselves or to bring about
a modified change through revolution, either of the left or of the right. It is important to understand
that this is our responsibility, yours and mine; because, however small may be the world we live in,
if we can transform ourselves, bring about a radically different point of view in our daily existence,
then perhaps we shall affect the world at large, the extended relationship with others."
So, back to square one. I am the problem and the problem me says get off the computer and go get your daughter's bus ticket back to Cyberjaya! The rain outside has stopped and the roads should be okay.

There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self.

The Miracle of Computer.

It has been almost 14 years now since I returned to Malaysia from my stay overseas which lasted 24 years of my life and what have i got to show for it? Nada!Zilch! Zero! Oh well I still got a Kancil and it gets me around and I did get my name into the Penang Art Scene with a few Solo Art exhibitions, Am I running dry at long last? Am I coming to my final lag of this journey  ( to find out)/ Should I be writing down my conclusions, wrap up my case and get ready for the pastures, where ever that may be? My blogging too is reflective of my state of mind which is like a juggernaut winding down towards its final resting stop. I really have very little or nothing left to share, thank the Good Lord as I am getting tired of spilling my guts to the non existent audience, but it was all worth the time spent as I could have been doing worse, which is doing nothing, although I have come to realize that there is really nothing wrong with it(doing nothing).
I have tried my hands at almost everything that I had set out to try and in most I had given my all for better or for worse and i am still alive and well even if not so independently wealthy like most of my peers.Such Is! I have climbed the mountain and the journey have been one long trail of successes and failures, many rivers i have crossed and many I have yet to venture and i still find myself sitting and watching as the ships roll by with no end in sight.I have tried my hand at making new friends and joined new clubs to see if that is where it is at but often enough i find disappointment one after another for all is not what it seems and boils down to simply making waves to justify my existence.
I am presently reading "Cyburbia", a book by James Harkin, (The dangerous Idea That's Changing How we live and Who we Are), which is like the history of computer and what effects it has on Mankind. My hours spent at blogging is a testimony to this fact, my children mistaking the tools for the message when they communicate with me or one another or the amount of time they devote towards thumbing away on the key boards is another reflection of things to come, we are in a 'Cyber Age', an age that will either unite us as a whole or disperse us into competitive groups vying to dominate through the collective minds. The age of information and technology or the age of ignorance the choice is at our fingertips. The modern day computer was a by product of a war effort according to Harkin, it was in the search for a means to shoot down the Nazi war planes bombing England during WW2 that a mathematician by the name of Norbert Wiener set about putting man and machine to work together in bringing an end to the reign of terror in areal bombings.Today the computer technology has been put to use in numerous war related technologies such as guided missiles and Drones.
As i may have mentioned in my earlier blogs, the Computer is perhaps God's (for those who believe) final Miracle for Mankind; or it could be the Devil's pitch fork we either make it or break it this time around, the age of the Prophets and Messiahs are gone and fewer great men are coming forth from our time and age to lead us on the right path. The Computer is our final respite and the challenge we face in its use or abuse will culminate in our crowning glory or extinction as a specie or for all species for that matter. For so long as we are ruled by greed, hate and ignorance, the Computer will be detrimental to our being, however if we collectively can resort to the voices of our past wisdom, the wisdom or our ancients, we might be able to salvage whatever there is to be saved through the proper use of this God given miracle ; the technological feat that could be our Saving Grace.

"Militarisation was not the only danger that Wiener felt confronted a society which controlled itself automatically through a system of feedback loops...His chief concern was that automation would lead people to surrender to the machine their own purposes and their power of mind."
                                                                                      Cyburbia, by James Harkin

While having my breakfast at " China House' ,this morning at English gentleman stopped at my table and we talked about the book and its impact on our lives especially that of our children and their future. It is no doubt in his mind and mine that our lives has been altered from its norm and not all for the better as we watched our children spending so much of their time hunched over the lap top or the PC, their fingers running at breakneck speed over some gizmo while their attentions totally absorbed in some weird game or another not at all in touch with what is going on around them.I told him that it is to me the most formidable form of escapism from reality as most of the kids today ( my children included) have a hard time making their own beds much less anything else. How do we get to strike a good balance in between the dependence on technology and the exercise of the human faculties such that the later is not totally dissolved into the former?
The computer age has yet to affect the whole human society globally as many countries still have yet to have excess to electricity much less computers and people are not all computer literates and thus still maintain a close connection with the more traditional modes of communication; like they still travel to one another's homes to greet and be greeted and they still share common stories and goals that is close to their hearts rather than be dragged into a universal mess that is now inhabiting the global scene as has been brought by the Internet into their lives. Is ignorance a bliss in this cases? Will we be overrun by information technology to the extent that we fail at our inter-personal communications? Will the next generation after be able to even communicate with their parents like humans instead of text messaging with unreadable spelling in short forms that only they would understand. Or would they even care to say Hi! with their BlackBerry.
Such Is!

Selera Wawasan - Catering

There is Art in everything that we do and it is a virtue to present our  work no matter how mundane as a piece of Art. The best designed shoe just as the best designed house is a work of Art.
When the watermelon is transformed into a bowl of  strawberries or cherries sitting in  cabbage patch then the taste of the watermelon becomes more delicious and exquisite
Rice cooking is the essence of all manner of food prepared in this country; if you do not know how to cook rice properly you better give up getting into the catering business.
Leave it up to the  women to do the tedious work like peeling and  slicing,  stirring and   blending.
How can you not walk away with a piece of the action hanging in your mouth?
Colors and textures, smells and tastes all have tot work together to  produce a good dish.
Presentation and attraction makes for the arousing of the appetite of the beholder, mouth watering and tummy grumbling..
It all began from the basics of chopping and in right proportions, not too much nor too little as it all lies in the balance .
