Gallery AWAS

The AWAS Gallery is located on Babington Road  in the general area of the Penang General Hospital and for those who are not familiar with the Georgetown are it might be good to find out first how to get there before you decide to make the trip. The gallery is run by Drew Harris and his wife Sharifah, nice couple.
Tuan Syed Bakar  who invited me to the show is here talking to Shaparel one of  the more well nkown artist from  Penang. Shaparel has his own gallery in Balik Pulau where he lives and works.
Dato' Tan Chee Kuan was also on hand to check out the works . Dato' Tan a Doctor of psychiatry by profession has been one of those patron of the arts and an art writer in Penang. He is also an artist although he would deny being so if asked.
Patrick Lasak is Penang's  Artist Extrodinaire, a man who believes in creating it large  for a better effect.  Patrick  paints landscapes mostly, however is venturing into abstract art for his nest next solo exhibition, (because Sui Ho the owner of Alpha Utara Gallery wants it so). I doubt that Patrick will any problem with going abstract as he Is and Abstract character himself already.
Rashid the portrait artist, chairman of the Malay Artist Society and  runs the  Malay Art gallery was also present with his whole entourage of wife children and grandchildren. Rashid is the real full time artist and has survived for many years solely on his art.
Drew Harris with Chee one of the artists whose works are on show.
My good friend Joe Sidek made an appearence and we had a great time  chitchatting away about art, Penang, our fathers and mothers and how we failed them or whether or not we did.
