Javanese (Balinese) Art

The Javanese culture is expressed through its Art forms and paintings plays a dominant role in the promotion of Javanese culture especially in central Java area.

Batik Painting as well as printing is widely explored by the Javanese artists perhaps due to the vibrant colors that this medium affords the painter when exposing the Javanese vibrant life style.

The batik technique has become an icon of javanese Artistice expression whether in the form of paintings or textile designs. The 'Batik Java" is a much sought after item among those who wears the Batik Sarong.

The introduction of acrylic and oil into Javanese Art styles has produced a more contemporary stylistic sense of expression which the mediums has made possible and western influences has introduced new ways of creative designs while expressing the old.

The mysticism that is Javanese is slowly fading away making way for more modern and abstract forms of expression sadly enough immitaitng the western artistic schools. Vulgarity and porno graphical themes and styles are replacing the subtle and the sublime forms of yesteryears.

The Javanese artists of old took pride in the delicate yet expansive lifestyle they depict which often takes a great amount of work and refined techniques. The works were done with much care and thought towards the harmony of the scenes depicted such that the viewing public will be inspired with a sense of pride over such scenes.

The female Balinese dancer is a classic subject to paint and very few artist who have the opportunity to visit bali cna turn away without making an attempt at rendering an image of the dances.

I am always fascinated by the monochromatic works of the older masters who more often evokes the hidden mysteries of the Javanese culture. Albeit, Hinduism, paganism or Animism in practice, the artists were able to allow themselves the freedom to imagine the unimaginable whether with eroticism or pure religious in expression.
